CaringMatters Leader Named 2019 Washingtonian of the Year
Immediate Past Board Chair, Nancy Richardson, Receives Prestigious Award

(Gaithersburg, MD) – Nancy Richardson, CaringMatters’ Immediate Past Board Chair, was named as one of ten Washingtonians of the Year for 2019. Richardson was nominated for her dedication, leadership and passion for the mission of CaringMatters, a 30-year old nonprofit organization that provides education and compassionate support to individuals and families in Montgomery County dealing with serious illness or grieving the loss of a loved one.

Every year, Washingtonian Magazine honors ten individuals who contribute to the region’s health, welfare, community service, and cultural richness. For more than 40 years, the Washingtonians of the Year awards has been one of the highest honors our community bestows on people who make this region a better place to live and work.

Since becoming involved with CaringMatters (founded as Hospice Caring) in 2006, Nancy quickly became a hands-on member of the organization’s dedicated volunteer community, taking on roles at every level of the organization – from using her medical expertise to volunteer as the nurse at Camp Erin, CaringMatters’ camp for grieving children, to serving as a volunteer caregiver to so many in need, and eventually, to becoming CaringMatters’ Board Chair. A nurse, mother of five, grandmother of nine and co-owner of Bar-T, Washington’s premier provider of before and after school childcare, pre-kindergarten classes, and summer camp programs, Nancy seamlessly weaves her personal and professional life together in the name of family and the spirit of service, using her resources and talents to give back to the community.

“We are so incredibly proud of Nancy for achieving this well-deserved honor," said Audrey Rothstein, CAE, CaringMatters' newly-elected Board Chair. "As we develop new initiatives and expand our reach to serve more people in our diverse community, Nancy's leadership and compassion will continue to inspire us."
