CaringMatters (founded as Hospice Caring) has received the following awards and special recognition for

our work in the community:

2022 Women Making History Award: The Montgomery County Commission for Women and Montgomery Women named Allison Kramer Stearns, CaringMatters CEO, as one of the recipients of the 2022 Women Making History Award. The award is given in recognition of outstanding women in Montgomery County making significant contributions in their vocation and in our community.​

2019 Washingtonian of the Year: Nancy Richardson, CaringMatters' Immediate Past Board Chair, was named one of the 2019 Washingtonians of the Year. Washingtonian Magazine selects recipients of this prestigious award to highlight locals leaders who are using their experience, smarts, and creativity to help the wider Washington, D.C. region.

2019 Brooks Saltsman Award: The Healthcare Initiative Foundation recognized CaringMatters with this prestigious honor for our commitment to volunteerism in the health and wellness field.

2018 Making A Difference Award: Hospice Caring, Inc. was recognized by the Nonprofit Village for its outstanding contributions to community collaboration, nonprofit sustainability, and impact.

Maryland Nonprofits Standards of Excellence: Maryland Nonprofits recognized Hospice Caring, Inc. with the Standards for Excellence designation. Organizations receiving this designation have been carefully evaluated and found to consistently model high professionalism in their self-regulation of ethical and accountability practices.

Catalogue for Philanthropy: Hospice Caring, Inc. named as one of the best small non-profit organizations in the Washington, DC area on multiple occasions.

Ruby Award from Soroptimist International of Upper Montgomery County Maryland: Penny Gladhill, Director of Volunteer Helping Hands and one of the founders of Hospice Caring, was honored in 2016 for her work to improve conditions for women and girls in the community.


GreatNonprofits: GreatNonprofits rated Hospice Caring as a 2012 Top-Rated Children and Families Nonprofit. 

Volunteer Engagement Stars Report: Hospice Caring was one of nine nonprofits profiled in a 2012 report from The Center for Nonprofit Advancement and Volunteer Frontier highlighting the effective use of volunteers for maximum impact. Read the full report here.
