AmeriCorps - Volunteer Maryland
Zema Meseretu is an AmeriCorps Member serving with Volunteer Maryland at CaringMatters. As a Volunteer Coordinator at CaringMatters, Zema is serving in different areas under communication and marketing with a specific focus on volunteer recruitment and community outreach. She is also very involved with program management for Camp Erin, CaringMatters' annual weekend camp for children ages 6-17 who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
Zema earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland with a certificate in Women's Studies. She is 2nd generation Ethiopian and is bilingual in English and Amharic. She has an interest in social action and cultural awareness and a background in nonprofits that work in the areas of domestic violence awareness and education. These experiences inspired her to join Volunteer Maryland and become a Volunteer Coordinator at CaringMatters. She hopes to gain program management experience and develop skills in nonprofit leadership, marketing, and communications to guide her into a career with a nonprofit organization.
